Building a Website for Your Network Marketing Home Business

If you’re promoting your network marketing business online, having a personal website is an absolute must. I’m not talking about the company-provided websites that are basically product catalogs with a little basic business information.
What I’m referring to here is a website that brands you as a unique individual with a story to share. Something that stands out and attracts attention from potential prospects who are seeking an income opportunity.
Since many network marketing companies don’t allow distributors to build websites that promote the opportunity by name, a lot of people simply publish generic websites that paint a general picture of an opportunity and provide links to additional information. This usually requires the prospect to enter a good email address in exchange for a report or series of messages that tell the story.
This is good in theory, but many MLM distributors and network marketers don’t realize that they are leaving out things that can make the difference between a prospect contacting them or quickly surfing to another site.
Check out a few home business opportunity websites. Do you get the feel there is a genuine person behind the site, or does it come across as an automated prospecting machine that simply qualifies and sorts you? Is the business builder’s picture and story there? Any contact information (address or phone number)? Is there anything that helps you establish trust and build an interest in talking to them?
The objective in building a personal website is branding you as a leader and presenting a picture that others can relate to. If you are just starting out in network marketing, you won’t have a big success story to tell yet, but that’s okay! You are building trust and beginning to attract prospects and future business partners with your site.
Your content will be things you’ve written, and is best if it doesn’t look like a professional sales letter. You never want to be “salesly”, just genuine. Tell your story, why you started your business, what you expect to gain from building your business, and how you will help anyone who wants to team up with you. It really is that simple.
I suggest, if possible, creating your main personal website with your name as the domain name. This is the first step in branding the most important aspect of your successful network marketing business – you. If your name is already taken, try variations with your middle initial or with dashes. One domain name finder that I really like is DomainsBot – you type in the name you want, and it tells you quickly if that name is available. Try for a dot com name if you can get it.
What if you’re not a good writer? Honestly, you don’t have to be great at writing. Just write in conversational tone, as you would talk to someone. Check the spelling and grammar, and let it fly! Your personal web site that brands YOU is an important part of building your successful network marketing business online. Your focus will always be on you and what you have to offer first, with your opportunity second. Branding YOU – this is the key.
