Can You Get MLM Leads with Post It Note Marketing?

Post It Note Marketing ExampleI was recently introduced to a different way to get MLM leads in your local area. This technique is called “Post It Note Marketing“.

In a nutshell, it involves stamping inexpensive Post It Notes with your marketing message, and sticking them up in obvious high-traffic locations all over your local area.

When I first heard about this technique, my initial thought was that it would be a waste of time, producing only low quality leads (tire kickers and people looking for a job). However, after looking into it more and seeing testimonials from some very successful network marketers who have used it, I decided to put it to the test.

Here are the basics of what you need to do this. I will begin testing this Post It Note Marketing technique this week, and will report back with results as things develop.

Materials You Need:

Yellow Post It Notes – currently about $13 for twelve 100-sheet pads at Office Depot.

Rubber Stamp – the original recommendation I read was to get a Brother 2770 stamp, however that particular type was not available locally. For $34 I purchased a similar size self-inking stamp from for this test.

Google Voice Account – this is free if you have a Gmail account, you can set up new local number just for doing this, and the voice mail you leave on it will pre-qualify the prospect and tell them what to do next. It will also give you a record of who called.

For my test, people will call and listen to a short message that pre-qualifies them a bit. They will be asked to leave their cell phone number, so that I can text them the URL to a presentation video for my opportunity. They will then have the option to opt-in for more details and we’ll take it from there.

To begin my test, I am stamping my sticky notes with the following text:

“SuperStars Only”
Make $50-$300K
Don’t Even Call Unless You Are
a Producer and Can Prove It

The idea is to put these in high traffic public places where people will easily see them and act on them if they’re looking to make money. Some of the best suggested locations include:

  • Gas Pumps
  • ATM Machines
  • Napkin Holders
  • Bank Counters
  • Soft Drink Machines
  • Video Rental Machines
  • Anywhere You Can Think Of

What initially sparked my interest in testing this technique is the fact that I can get new people in my group in business right away, without spending a lot of money for advertising. Especially for those who may be reluctant to approach their warm market at first.

For those who want to market online but aren’t set up and ready yet, and even for those who are, this is a potentially effective way to get some quick leads and learn how to pre-qualify and sort. These are skills you must master anyway for network marketing success, so why not start here?

Please know that this is absolutely a numbers game. You have to put out a lot of these. I admit I’m still a little skeptical about this technique, but given the success of the MLM leaders I’ve heard praise it, I’d be nuts not to at least try it. I’ll post an initial follow-up in a few days, and we’ll see how it goes.

This is an interesting strategy. I am looking forward to hearing how it goes.

  2. Hey Eldon, when I saw your post title I was drawn in … just to add my two cents, we used to use this technique all the time when I was a district manager with Avon and found it worked very well.

    • Eldon Beard says:

Marquita, that’s why I’m trying it, because I’ve heard many different people testify to its effectiveness.

  3. Interesting. This one is cool. I think that people get caught up in the hype and try to use the next great marketing technique. But rarely do people take a step back and look at the basics. The simple stuff still works! Thanks for sharing Eldon.

  4. Hi Eldon,
I have never tried or even heard of this technique but it sounds easy and you have nothing to lose. Hmmm.. I am not sure if it will work in the area I live in but it would be interesting to see how it worked for ya 🙂 Looking forward to reading about your experience 🙂

    Thanks for sharing this.

Houda, that’s what I am thinking, I’m not sure it will work in MY area. There are entrepreneurs everywhere, though, so we’ll see.

  6. I’ve heard about this idea before. I’m curious to know if you’re still doing it and your results. I like how you pre-qualified with your message.

Hello Dennis, overall, it didn’t work out as I had hoped. It did attract a few people but for the time and effort it wasn’t really worth the effort. I think this might work better for “fast cash” opportunities than for network marketing.
