Pay Per Click – Good for Your Network Marketing Business?

is pay per click a good way to advertise for network marketing? After you’ve published your personal web site to brand yourself and help promote your network marketing business, the next step is figuring how to get visitors.

With a new website or blog, it takes a while to get attention. This is especially true if you’re looking for people to find you through search engines.

Because getting listed high in the free search results for network marketing and home business related terms is quite difficult, many people turn to pay per click advertising programs, such as Google Adwords or Yahoo Search.

For a long time, I used Google Adwords to effectively drive traffic to my network marketing and home business websites. It was a bit expensive, but the results seemed to pay off for me over time. At one time, I recommended using Adwords and even helped people get started with it.

I no longer recommend pay per click for promoting a network marketing business or website, for a couple of reasons.

  • competition for home business related terms that people actually search on is extremely competitive, even fierce
  • competition and increasing numbers of advertisers has driven the click prices through the roof

The days of getting decent keywords with good traffic for just a few cents a click are all but gone. With all the great keyword research tools like Market Samurai out there now, it’s easy to find the “medium traffic low competition” keywords so they are no longer the hidden jewels they once were. At least, not in red hot competitive markets like home business opportunities and network marketing.

I think the key to really promoting your business effectively in 2010 and beyond is moving away from trying to get search engine traffic and picking up on the hottest trend on the planet – the social networking revolution. Just take Facebook as an example – the growth of that community is staggering in just the last couple of years alone. I’ve made more connections and received more visits to my home business sites through the social networking communities than I ever did through search engine traffic. Best of all, it’s free!

Working and building relationships in the social media is definitely time intensive, especially when you’re first starting out. However, it is one great investment of your time IF you’re seeking to expand your business online and really find people that are looking for what you have to offer.

Forget the pay per click, and don’t worry so much about getting listed in the search engines. Get in on the social networking wave now while it’s still in its infancy. You can reap dividends for years to come. It will only get better!
