Your network marketing business, and the level of success you are able to achieve, is directly affected by how much you think you are worth.
Take a minute and think about this. Have you set a financial goal, a number that you want to hit in terms of income from your business? If you have, does that number represent an income level that you REALLY believe you can achieve?
I’ve been reading and reflecting on this lately, and know that many people are held back (without even realizing it) because they really deep down don’t feel they are worth what they say they want to make with their network marketing business.
Let’s say you went to college and got a business degree, then went to work in sales. You’ve had a fairly successful career over the last 20 years, and you’ve consistently earned between $40K and $55K during that time. If you set your network marketing business income goal at $150K, maybe deep down you don’t believe you can achieve that much because you’ve never done it before. Maybe you feel your abilities are not worth that much?
It comes down to what you’re accustomed to earning and how well you can visualize (and believe) in getting well past that point. If you’ve got a “30K a year” mentality because that’s pretty much what you’ve always made, it might be hard to imagine that you’re worth $100K in your business. It’s a self-limiting belief system that’s in place.
This is something worth doing some soul searching about. Look at the leaders in your company who are making the kind of money and living the lifestyle you’d like to achieve. Are you able to visualize yourself living that life and having that kind of money deposited into your bank account each month? Can you actually see yourself (really) achieving that level of financial success?
This is one reason you always hear network marketing business leaders talking about self-improvement and setting aside time to read and listen to motivational materials. This is why presentations and courses designed to help you move from where you are (your existing mindset) to a higher level of expectation are so critical to success. You have to break out of self-limiting beliefs that most people have when starting a home business.
Many new network marketing business owners have high income hopes, but realistically, little real expectation or belief that they can get there. This may not be apparent on the surface, it usually isn’t, but deep down inside it’s there and working to hold you back. On the surface you might feel very positive and gung-ho about making the big bucks, but when it comes down to it, do you really know in your heart that you CAN do it?
Be sure you have firm, written goals for your business. Consult with your upline leaders and set a realistic income goal for your first year, and break that down into exactly what you need to achieve in your network marketing business each month to get there. Taking it in smaller steps like this helps, one step at a time. Always be working on your belief level and attitude so you break out of any self-limiting beliefs you have.

Got a minute? Take a look at what’s working in an online business for me...
Eldon,
Planning makes reaching revenue projections much easier to reach. There’s really no ceiling but it takes a lot of planning and hard work. There’s no reason why anyone can’t make the kind of money they want. The only thing standing in your way is you.
That pretty much sums it up Dewane. 🙂
Eldon, when you put it the way that you have, it makes it sound so easy. Just set a realistic income goal, have written goals. I wish it were that easy.
The challenge with most network marketing businesses is that the upline that you sit down to discuss this with are nowhere near that figure themselves and are still trying to find out how to do it. At least that was my experience.
I know what I am worth, I know what I have earned in the past – I want to replicate that again.
Hello Trevor, I wish it were that easy too. Having good self-worth and confidence that you deserve success is one piece of the puzzle, but not the end all. I agree that in many cases the immediate upline has not experienced success yet and is trying to get there – that’s why I often advise people to go farther upline and talk to someone who is having the success they want.
This is exactly what I’ve been reading about in Think and Grow Rich, this week. It starts with a burning desire, and those clear, measurable goals MUST be written down, but without the genuine BELIEF that I CAN do it, it’s all pretty much worthless.
I love the clarity and simplicity of your writing, Eldon.
