Maximizing Your Social Networking Profile

creating a good social network profileWhen you start using the social networks like Facebook, one of the first things you want to do is create a great profile for yourself. Surprisingly, a lot of people don’t bother to do this, or neglect to fill in enough information to make it meaningful.

If you hope to meet potential prospects or customers for your home based business, you’ll want to pay special attention to completing your profile and doing a good job of it.

Let’s say you are involved in a network marketing home business. You join Facebook not only to hook up with old friends, but also to hopefully find new friends and develop relationships with like minded people. Some of the people you meet this way could become future business partners. When you begin participating and reading things other Facebook users have posted, what is your natural inclination when you find something interesting? I bet you click on the author’s profile to see who they are.

This is why profiles are so important. Millions of people use these networks daily, and if you are active, many of them are reading your contributions and clicking your profile to see what you are all about. Filling out these profiles is pretty much self-explanatory, and only takes a few minutes. Here are a couple of things to keep in mind, to help you make a better impression and reach more potential new friends and business prospects.

Put information in your profile about many of your interests, not just your network marketing opportunity or home business. If you are into yoga, fitness, gourmet cooking, or even something unusual like beekeeping, mention it in your profile. Balance all this out and don’t put heavy emphasis on your business – just mention it as a part of the total “you”. When people search for others with similar interests to yours, you will come up. I know this seems obvious, but I’ve been surprised at how many people fill in their profiles with just a link to their business site, and maybe a short blurb about the product or opportunity. The more interests you share, the more people are likely to find you.

Another important thing is to include a picture in your profile. If you’re interested in finding home business partners, don’t use a clip art image or poor quality photo that doesn’t really show who you are. You don’t have to be all stuffy and formal with it – in fact, casual photos are fine and probably preferable in most cases. Just remember to keep them tasteful and a good reflection on you.

Your social network profile is your “billboard” that many people will have the opportunity to view. Do your best to leave a good impression, because people DO read these profiles and form immediate opinions of you based on them.
