MLM sponsoring is challenging, especially if you are new and don’t have much experience in the business. What if there was one thing you could do, that would give you a 100% better chance of sponsoring your prospects?
Many network marketers are very enthused about their product and opportunity, and tend to focus on the wrong things when talking to people who might be interested in working with them. It’s just human nature.
One way to significantly improve your MLM sponsoring success is to turn your focus forward.
Turning your focus forward means putting your own agenda aside and focusing on your prospect and what’s important to them. What are their needs? What are they looking for? Why do they want to pursue a home based business?
Many networkers are very eager to explain the benefits of their product, the great rewards offered by the compensation plan, the cruises and trips, and other perks. All of this is important, but often in vain if you forget to do one thing…
LISTEN
Listen to your prospect and invite them to share more about themselves, and their reasons for considering a home business opportunity. Everyone has a story, and most people are more than happy to tell you about their experiences and what’s important to them.
What do you think might be the number one secret to attracting prospects who want to work with you, rather than someone else they might be talking to?
Being genuine and authentic, and showing a true interest in people, is more rare in this business than you might think. If you take a genuine interest in your prospects and learn to really listen and respond to what they tell you, you can set yourself so far apart from the crowd that your MLM sponsoring success will soar.
Presenting the facts about your business is a key part of successful sponsoring, but you must establish a connection first. Think about how many people your prospect is already talking to. If they found you through an ad or clicked a link to your site, they are probably looking around for something and talking to more people than just you. It’s important for you to stand out and show that you are different from the rest of the pack.
Action Step – the next time you call or speak in person with one of your prospects, avoid the temptation to launch a presentation of the “facts”. Make it a point to learn more about them. Ask them questions that will encourage them to talk, like –
- have you ever had a home business before? If so what was your experience?
- why are you looking for an opportunity right now?
- where would you like your business to take you? (financial independence, etc.)
Just ask basic questions like this and let the conversation flow. Focus on what they are saying. If you’re half listening and thinking about what you’re going to say next, people can sense this and it is a definite turn-off. It really isn’t hard to cultivate an interest in others, what’s hard is overcoming habit and putting the focus on the prospect first.
If you take time to practice turning your focus forward, your MLM sponsoring will only get better!
