Are your expectations for home business success realistic? Can you get to where you want to be, when you want to be there, doing what you are doing right now?
I have found in working with people that many have unrealistic expectations of what they can achieve within a certain time frame, while putting in a certain amount of effort.
Have you found this to be true also? I suspect that the answer is obvious for most of us. Especially in network marketing, where you work with a lot of people, you’ll discover some interesting perceptions.
In network marketing training circles, you often hear it said that “you just need 2-3 good people to make a fortune“. This is talking about sponsoring high achievers, of course, but what does that leave a lot of people thinking? Two or three good high achievers doesn’t sound too intimidating, until you consider that it might take sorting through several hundred reasonably qualified prospects in order to find those people.
It doesn’t always take that long – some people do it much more quickly – but I’m talking averages here. Unfortunately, many network marketers don’t stick with it long enough to see the level of home business success that getting just a couple or three high achievers on your team can produce.
So, let’s talk about expectations. If your goal is to earn $4000 per month with your network marketing business after one year, how many hours per week do you think you’ll need to devote to focused prospecting and business building for that year? I mean talking to people and not just preparing, planning, etc?
- 2-5 hours per week
- 6-10 hours per week
- 11-15 hours per week
- 16-20 hours per week
- 21-30 hours per week
For most people, to earn that much consistently after a year, you would probably be looking at 20+ hours per week. Most people would have little chance to achieve that level of income working just 2-5 hours per week for a year, but that is exactly what many new networkers believe.
Network marketing IS a very powerful business model. The magic is in the leverage. You get paid over and over for work you do today. It compounds and grows. It is a beautiful thing. It develops the residual income that no job or traditional career can provide.
BUT…..you have to put in the work and the time when you are building up momentum in your business. Later, it will get easier, but you still continue to work. Support. Prospect. The great thing is that you can do it on YOUR time and work it in around other things, even while working a full time day job and raising a family. There is no other business, with this much potential, that allows you to do that.
Just assess the time and energy you can commit to the building process, set a realistic and attainable income goal, and go for it! It is always good to consult with your upline mentors and leaders who have “been there done that”.
Take your home business success to the TOP in 2013!
