Is there really such a thing as free MLM leads? From cruising around the web and reading various ads and headlines, one would think so!

I have people who are just starting out in network marketing occasionally ask if there is a way to get cheap or free leads for promoting their opportunity. Certainly, there are ways to get MLM and network marketing leads for free, without having to pay for them with cash up front.

Like anything that’s free, there is often a hidden cost. Let’s take a look at some ways to get free MLM leads.

How to Get Free MLM Leads

Here is the truth – if you are just starting out in network marketing, you were likely coached to make a list of your warm marketing friends and family, and begin introducing your opportunity to them.

Warm market leads like this really are free, you don’t pay anything in cash for them. You simply make the list and start making connections.

On the other hand, you will occasionally see people offering free MLM leads as an incentive for taking some sort of action. It might be signing up with their opportunity, or a bonus for purchasing a product of some sort.

You will be provided with a list of leads that are said to be actual home business opportunity seekers, and all you need to do is start emailing and calling them. On the surface, this sounds very appealing.

What you will find, though, is that these leads are usually pretty much dead. They have been harvested from people who at one time submitted a form to learn more about making money from home. This is often months or even years ago. They have been given away or sold many many times.

Many of the email addresses and phone numbers provided on these lists of free MLM leads were invalid from the beginning, as many people use fake contact information so they can review an opportunity without being “sold” by someone. Over time, the contact information that was originally good has pretty much become useless for getting in touch with a real, live, interested prospect.

So, what is the answer? How to you get truly qualified MLM leads who are fresh and responsive? How do you avoid the trap of getting leads that are totally not interested in what you are offering?
