Online Video Marketing for Home Business Success

online video marketing for your home businessOnline video marketing is a very effective way to promote your home business and get found online more easily.

Video is a hot item these days, and Google and the other search engines love it!

Video also engages your visitors and gives them a better idea of who you are and what it would be like to do business or work with you.

Getting started with online video marketing isn’t difficult at all. All you need is a Flip, iPhone, or other small pocket camcorder that you can handle and carry around easily.

For promoting your home business, there are different types of videos you can make. Some of the more popular and effective are:

  • “talking head” videos – this is just a head shot of you talking about something related to your product, opportunity, or niche
  • basic tutorial videos – where you demonstrate a simple technique for doing something, for example adding a plugin to WordPress or anything that is easier to show visually
  • slideshow tutorials – where you do a webinar type presentation to explain a system or concept that requires a little more detail than just a basic tutorial video

For basic tutorials that require recording your screen, Jing is a great free solution. For more advanced tutorials and slideshows, consider Camtasia Studio. Camtasia Studio is an investment in your business, and they offer a fully-functional 30-day trial so you can see if it’s right for you.

If you are promoting a business that is primarily based on interacting and developing relationships with people (network marketing or direct sales), you will probably do more “talking head” videos as these tend to reach out and attract your visitors more effectively for this type of business.

Since the purpose of online video marketing for home business is to build personal brand recognition and help you get found, here are some tips for getting the most from them.

Brand Your Video

The opening frame of your video should have your blog or website URL and your name (for network marketing and relationship-based businesses) or a company name if desired.

If you have a logo or special image you use on your blog (perhaps in the header), you could use that along with your URL. The idea is to create something that people will remember and associate with you. Some successful marketers use a head shot of themselves as their logo. It’s all in what you’re comfortable with.

Introduce Yourself Right Up Front

Begin your video by introducing yourself and tell the viewer why they should continue watching: “Hi, this is Eldon Beard, from EldonBeard.com – in this video, we’ll discuss how you can….

This, along with your initial frame that includes your image or logo, is a good start toward branding yourself and attracting visitors to your blog or website. There are other, more complex things you can do (such as putting a watermark on the video to brand it throughout) but this will get you started.

Call to Action

At the end of your video, be sure to include a call to action. You want your viewer to do something, so be sure they know what to do. You can highlight a free report or other benefit of visiting your site, and encourage them to visit and grab your benefit or offer.

Getting Your Video Out There Where People Will See It

Once you have created your video, you want to get the most mileage possible from it. You want people to find you. Here are the easiest and quickest ways to get the ball rolling.

  • post to YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, and any other social accounts you are active in along with a link back to your blog or website
  • post to your blog and add some content around it giving more detail about what the video is about
  • submit to TribePro or other bookmarking and social sharing site to get links back to your video
  • in your content descriptions, make plentiful use of keywords that people might search for when looking for what your video is about

Important Tip: Online video marketing for your home business is quite effective, but the key to having best success is creating content that answers questions, addresses concerns, or otherwise provides value to the viewer. Videos that just promote or hype your business will not help you, and will be deleted from many video sharing sites. Be professional and provide value.
